Apple announced the release of the iPhone 15 at their annual September event yesterday and you’ll be able to get one in Canada very soon.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max start on September 15 at 8 a.m. ET. The phones will then start arriving to customers and stores in Canada on September 22.
Unlike previous years it’s highly unlikely any of the iPhone 15 models will sellout or that people will be lining up for one.
Pricing for the iPhone 15 in Canada
The 6.1-inch base iPhone 15 starts at $1129 for the 128GB model while the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus starts at $1279 for the 128GB model. The 128GB 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro starts at $1449 and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Pro Max starts at $1749 for the 256GB model.
Financing plans for the iPhone 15 are available directly though Apple Canada or through a service provider like Rogers, who have a 48 month, 0% interest financing deal for customers that use their credit card.
Each year Apple makes the iPhone a little bit better and this year is no different. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have better quality cameras and now come standard with a USB-C port that can be used for charging as well as transferring data. The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max also have better cameras and a USB-C port, as well as a titanium body and the new A17 Pro chip. Each model also comes in a variety of colours.
What’s the deal with the USB-C port?
Apple replacing the dreaded lightning port with the more standard USB-C port is a welcomed upgrade. But if you’re planning on using it for transferring data it’s worth mentioning that the USB-C port on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus only has USB 2.0 speeds, which maxes out at 480Mbps. The USB-C port on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max is USB 3.0 and can transfer at speeds up to 10Gbps.
What about iOS 17?
All iPhone 15 models ship with the new iOS 17 installed. For iPhone users with older models going back to the iPhone XR/XS, iOS 17 will be available to download and install on September 18 (iPadOS 17 will be released on the same day).
There are a lot of new features in iOS 17, including updates to the Phone and Messages apps, as well as FaceTime, which now has the ability to receive audio and video messages and connect to an Apple TV 4K for video calls. There’s a new Journal app in iOS 17, and Reminders is finally getting a grocery list feature. For a list of all new features coming with iOS 17, visit the Apple Canada website.
